CIMA Archival List

The following is a partial list of archival materials held by the Centre for Intercultural Music Arts, London. They will become part of the Archive of Intercultural Music which CIMA is developing. The purpose of the archival list is fourfold:

(a) to focus on the global nature of interculturalism;
(b) to clarify and exemplify the definitions and concepts of interculturalism discussed in Intercultural Musicology and the companion series of books Intercultural Music;
(c) to inform the public about the wide variety of materials included in the CIMA collection; and
(d) to make the composers’ works accessible to others.

This list is an addition to the items cited in Volume 4/i. It is a complete set of recordings made at the first International Symposium and Festival on “Composition in Africa and the Diaspora” held in the UK at Churchill College, Cambridge University, and at St Pancras Parish Church, London, between 2^nd and 6^th August 2001. The recordings were made by Mike Wright, Chair of the International Society – African to America Music (IS-AAM), and donated to CIMA.

The letter codes accompanying the entries identify the media of the various items in the CIMA collection. The codes are:

Basic information (e.g. language of song text, instrumentation of work, date of composition, publication details) accompany all entries, except for those cases where such information is unknown, unavailable or inapplicable.
